Does my truck have Bluetooth?

Postby jakes29 [OP] » Jan 10 2011, 5:04pm

Anyone know the procedure to syncing a cell phone with bluetooth or where I could find it? I've got an 06 sierra. When I push the "bluetooth" button on the steering wheel, it says "onstar ready".

jakes29 - I'm not so sure your truck has bluetooth. It doesn't appear to be an option for that year. I was looking through the online manuals and the only thing that it indicates is the "Phone" button on the steering wheel is directly linked to OnStar/Voice Recognition only.

That was my initial thought. I wonder if it can be converted to bluetooth?

If your truck does not have the technology already built in, you cannot convert it. You would need to buy an aftermarket head unit that has bluetooth to be able to sync your phone with your radio.

I talked to a electronics shop that showed me a really bad ass unit installed for $250-$300. My truck has the bose system and they said it will work. Touchscreen and it plays music through iphones and everything.

Do you happen to know the name of the system? Do the steering wheel controls work? It comes with a touchscreen or your truck already has one?

Most aftermarket head units will still utilize the steering wheel controls, most of the time you have to buy an adapter to allow them to work.

went to an audio shop today with the same questions about adding blue tooth to my truck. to get it to use the factory radio there is a kit you can buy, the dealer here said it was like 115 for the kit. it will play the phone through your factory speakers. I think Parrit makes it? anyhow, just wanted to share what I learned today, as an alternative to replacing your head unit and all the parts required to make that headunit use your steeing wheel controls etc.

I did my Bluetooth through the GM how too videos. No idea what the earlier ones are like, but did you look for videos on the GM website?
