Factory Bose System, Not very loud with aftermarket stereo

Factory Bose System, Not very loud with aftermarket stereo

Postby k.gren [OP] » Jan 25 2013, 7:17pm

Hey all. I have an 05 Silverado 1500 Extended Cab with Bose system, but no Onstar. I ordered an aftermarket HU from Crutchfield.com. I ordered the GMOS-04 Integration Adapter required to retain my Bose system and chimes and all that jazz. I've been installed stereos for about 10 years now, but for some reason, this one isn't working. I can turn my stereo all the way up, and it's still not loud enough to hear with the windows down and it's all distorted. I feel like I may have made an error somewhere and was curious if anyone had an thoughts on where I screwed up. Also, this was a pain to install since its for onstar and what not too. Too many unused wires. Thanks!

I just installed a stereo with the same adapter in my 03 - The sound is nice and clean, but the stereo maxes out before the speakers do.

It's possible you got a defective adapter if the sound is distorted - And, verify your wiring against the intructions. I'm no newby to installing stereos, but the GMOS-04 seems to have a lot of seemingly redundant wires. I had to do mine twice.

ya I installed the same thing in my buddies 03 avalanche.. only difference is he bought the Alpine Power Pack with it. That was the hardest install i've ever done since he bought the steering wheel control adapter too, but his stereo sounds like a concert in his truck. I just wish I could cut out the wires for the Onstar because that is was confused me. Do I need to wire up the red wire for the onstar even though it won't be used? just little crap like that. so frustrating lol

I (as much as I hate to admit it) actually wne step by step down the list of wires in the adapter instructions. I figured "better safe than sorry".

Any thing I didn't use, was rolled up and taped.

And, maybe some of the audiophiles, that exist on every car forum, will chime in with their expertise.

This was my first Bose install, so I'm not going to claim to be an expert on this system

I have the boes system also and when i put in a new head unit its sounded like shit. But i turned the bass and treble up and it was fine. And depending on the unit u might have to turn on the rear speakers or else its just coming out of the tiny door speakers
