Installing amp and speaker boxes to stock radio

Postby atxltz [OP] » Jan 20 2011, 5:42am

I just got my, new to me, 08 Silverado LTZ Z71 crew cab last week. I pulled the amp and speaker boxes out of my old truck and would like to install them in my new truck. I like the sound of the OEM bose stereo but I think it needs a little thump. The amp will only power the subs. What is the best way to do this? I'm doubting that the bose system has rca jacks for amps. I've read that the door chime might be amplified?? Definitly don't want that! Anyone done this install themselves or any stereo installers out there? I searched the forums with no luck.

You probably will have to get a harness to keep it wired correctly. I would say go to Crutchfields website and look up what harness you need. They have a great tech dept and would be a good place to get all of your questions answered. Let us know what you find out. Maybe take pics of the install step by step and post in " how to " section for others to see how to do this.
Thank you

From what I hear, some BOSE systems have a sub in the center console. Don't know if this is true. If so, just tap into those speaker wires. Hopefully your amp has the low level inputs as well as the RCA

Mine has the center console sub, but I have never pulled it out to see what conncetions it has. I agree with Hartski, though...if possible that may be a good point to tap in.

Thumps good enough for my purposes. Of course, there is not a lot of "thumping" in country music, or '70's rock.

Country actually has some of the best bass. With a good system, it can really thump.

I found a wiring diagram for all the stereos on ALLDATA. For 08 Silverado, it does not show a OEM subwoofer and there is an OEM amplifier for the four door speakers. I would need a harness for the connector after the radio before the amp, so I could splice in an aftermarket amp to my subs. Is there such a harness?
As for type of music, I listen to all kinds. Country does have a lot of bass. I want a "full-er" sound, for the lack of a better term. I'm not looking to rattle all the panels on my truck "ghettofabulous" style.
