Need help with location of CB Antenna Mount

Need help with location of CB Antenna Mount

Postby JUSTINKP [OP] » Aug 14 2011, 1:30am

Hey all,

I'm new here, and just bought my very first Silverado. A 2011 LT Edition with the All Star Package.

I added a hard tonneau cover to the bed last week by myself, and my next project is adding mounts for 2 cb antennas.

Usually I just hook up 1 antenna to the cb, and leave the other just for show on the opposite side of the vehicle to "balance out." I find it's pretty hard to tune 2 antennas to work well together, plus you're not gaining much even when you do.

Anyhow, I'm considering the bed rail that runs nearest to the cab to put 2 mounts, or if that doesn't work, I'm going to have to use the hood/fender mounts and use them that way. Does anyone have any suggestions, part numbers, where I should shop for these items, etc?

Any input is really appreciated. Thanks for your help in advance.

Thank you Koolz. I did view that forum, and the stake mount looks to be a good option. I'd probably run the driver side antenna to the cb and leave the passenger side antenna to be the one that is just for show so that the radio antenna on the passenger side doesn't interfere at all.

I'm not familiar with stake mounting though. How do you do it? I don't understand how I could put a mount in the stake holes securely.

I've had my best luck in the past by running my power and ground for my cb power right to the battery, and not through a power source in the dash, so I think I'll do that as well :)

Thank you for the help so far!

Soon I will be mounting two radios in my truck, one is a hf rig and the other is my 2 meter rig.My hf radio pulls just a little less then 25 amps, the 2 meter pulls around 15 amps. Both will have to be fed right off the battery. Both are too heavy to bolt to the dash so I will have to make a console of sorts that can hold both radios, and keep them cool. This will be a winter project since I just don't have the time to do it now.One antenna is 72 inchs, and the other is around 8 feet or a bit taller.I'm going to mount them both on the front of the bed between the bed and cab. When I start the project I'll post pics.

Please post pics when you get that project started! That would be great!~

Can anyone tell me if this would fit on my 2011? It says 2007-2010 but it looks like it might fit on my 2011. http://www.rightchannelradios.com/hood- ... t-696.html

Also, could someone tell me how in the world this installs?

Thanks guys!

Well attempt #1 was a fail. Ordered 2 mounts for the hood/fender from right channel radios and they didn't fit, even though they told me they would. I got them to mount, but there wasn't enough clearance underneath for the coax cables to plug in. I e-mailed them and requested a complete refund.

Ugh.

I dont have a toolbox, and I have a hard bed cover, so this probably wouldn't be an option. Thanks for the idea though.
