New radio installation

any way to wire a new radio without the jumper harness

New radio installation

Postby 08chevy [OP] » Feb 14 2011, 11:59pm

Iv got a 08 silverado. Base model has onstar but not active. Iv been trying to wire up a aftermarket radio, well wired up the new one( cut no wires) and plugged it in. Got power but no sound at all. Hooked a house speaker to it and had sound from it. Redid everything still no sound. Thinkin imma have to blow the $175 for the harness. Don't want to though tight on $$ right now. So does anyone know a way around it?

How did you wire up an aftermarket head unit without cutting any wires and without using an aftermarket wiring harness? Something doesn't make sense there.

If you have OnStar, you need to use an aftermarket interface which retains the Retained Accessory Power (RAP) system and OnStar functionality. Scosche makes an interface and sometimes you can find them at Walmart for pretty cheap or order on Amazon.

I used wire clamps and ran an aux power on a switch. Everything worked but sound and the chime. Not to worried about the chime tho.

I would check out Crutchfields for the right harness for your vehicle. They seem to have a great tech department too that will help you with any problems that come up .
Thank you

Putting in a pioneer Avis F700bt I just went to wal mart I can come up with the money for theirs fairly easy. Only $80 for the same thing and dash surround that the audio places want another $25 for. And I do not beleve there is a factory amp.

well there can only be so many things wrong. you only need power and ground and there is only 2 ways to hook up the speakers, and if its polarity is backwards they will still make noise.
