Opinions on best factory speaker replacement w/factory radio

Postby racetech [OP] » Mar 20 2017, 1:24pm

I have never had luck in the past replacing factory speakers and keeping the factory radio. They always end up under powered and unimpressive. For anyone using the stock radio, what size and type of speaker are you replacing your door speakers with that end up sounding better then the old stockers?

I installed Rockford factory replacments in my 08 from crutchfield. night and day difference even with the factory radio and no amps. Think it was less than $75 with the adapters and connectors.

I recently replaced my stock speakers with rockford's. Sound is amazing. They are the 3 way 6.5's in the front doors. But I can't say whether or not they produce bass like the stock speakers do because I do already have a 10 inch sub for bass. Which also is a Rockford. I've always been a kenwood guy but these rockfords are awesome. Very good mids and highs.

I didn't use a sub. And I was impressed by their low end. Mind you they won't rattle your mirror. But they are a great cheap and easy upgrade.

For a stock system get some speakers with high sensitivity to sound louder.
I had Rockford Fosgate speakers before these Polks I have now. The RF sounded good but couldn't handle the small 45wx4 amp I put in and started crackling a little. The Polks handle it much better.

Infinity speakers with 3-ohm resistance. The 3-ohm resistance allows the speakers to be driving more with the factory stereo....

I have the Reference Series installed. Components in front and coaxial in rear and I bought them for the lower resistance and good reviews. I am happy with them.

I've removed the factory dash speakers and installed a set of:
Infinity REF-275tx 135W 3/4" Reference Series Edge-Driven Textile Car Tweeters
3/4" Reference Series Car Tweeters
Edge-driven, textile tweeter
135W Max
45W RMS
3.0 ohms Impedance

The front door speakers have been replaced with:
Infinity REF-9623ix 300W Max 6x9" 3-way Car Audio Speaker with Edge-Driven, Textile Tweeters
300 Watts Max Each, 100 Watts RMS Each
Edge-driven, textile tweeters
Plus OneTM woofer cone
3.0 Ohms Impedance
Sensitivity: 94 dB

These speakers have incredible base and can easily rattle the windows, mirrors and doors.

The rear door speakers were replaced with:
Infinity Kappa 62.11I 150W 6.5-Inch 2-Way Kappa Series Coaxial Speakers
6-1/2" Kappa Series 2-Way Car Speakers
Power Handling: Peak: 450 watts per pair / 225 watts each & RMS: 150 watts per pair / 75 watts each
Carbon Injected Glass Fiber cone material
1" Soft Dome edge-driven Fabric tweeter construction
Plus One cone technology offers more cone area than other speakers in its class
2.0 Ohms Impedance

Something to note. Previous to these Infinity speakers I had some Kicker 4-ohm speakers in front and rear doors. There was a very noticeable difference in available volume between these 4-ohm speakers and the Infinity 3-ohm speakers. I would crank the volume to near max with the 4-ohm speakers, and it just wasn't very loud. With the Infinity 3-ohm speakers, I didn't have to crank the volume too much to get substantial volume from the speakers.

Nice job on the flush mount. I had considered doing this, but didn't want to hassle with the speaker wiring.
