Anyone running a PA/CB in their truck? If so, where did you mount the speaker/receiver, what brands, etc?

I have a Cobra unit inside the truck with a P/A speaker. Its in my old 92 Chevy. I put the P/A in the front bumper and just tie strapped it to a plastic piece underneath the grille. I got the speaker, 4 foot Firestik antenna, and cobra unit from ebay from a guy that sells that kind of stuff. It's been awhile since I've got it so I can't remember what the name of the company on ebay was. The CB radio is mounted in the center part of the dash unerneath the radio, and the antenna is mounted to my tool box with a stainless steal spring to let it swing around or when it hits an over hang. Hope this helps.

I am currently running a pretty strong Uniden 76XL, but just bought another radio to upgrade. Running a roof mounted (not magnetic) Wilson 5000 antenna tuned to 1:1. I don't drive the truck all that often, but I run a DX959 in my daily driver with a roof mounted Wilson 5000 and talk on it daily (100 mile round trip commute).

Keep in mind, radios can be tuned for both output and receive performance...if a radio isn't tuned to be sensitive, it might not hear anyone at all. With that said, I had a pretty good old reliable Cobra 29 (peaked/tuned only), and talked/received over 30 miles one night coming across Ohio. And with the current solar cycle, most times you will have nothing but static during the day (but that is also what a lot of guys use to talk skip as well)...another few years and things will quiet down again.
