Radio Lights

Burned OUT

Radio Lights

Postby Jim [OP] » Oct 29 2011, 12:08am

I have the stock radio system in my 02 Silv and happy with it except for now several of the lights within the radio have started to burn out. e.g. the radio presets are numbered 1 thru 6 and only a couple work. Besides trashing radio that besides the lights issue works fine and sounds good, what can I do? Are those bulbs able to be replaced or not worth the effort/money,, I did a little searching for info and the radio in this truck comes out pretty easy from what I read and replacing with a aftermarket does not effect the chimes or any other electronics in truck due to the yr of the truck. Does anyone have any stereo info on these as far as the lights in the unit and is it true what I have read, easy to replace(if I go that route) and a do it yourselfer like me using a aftermarket unit will not effect the factory electronics. Thanks Fellow Truck Owners,, Jim

Jim i have a 99 that had same issue. Those radios are not serviceable from my research. Junk yard or aftermarket is best route. Factory radio removes and installs with the greatest ease, you will be amazed. I installed a aftermarket stereo system(head unit, amp and speakers) and did not find any problems with factory chimes, dings and bells. Hope this helps you a little.

You can solder new bulbs in if you are handy with electronics. The climate control unit will be the next lights to burn out.

thanks guys for the replys, I guess they make those things in a cheap fashion not to last long as far as the little bulbs, glad to hear that your 99 was a peice of cake(I think a 02 is the same as a 99) I will explore the aftermarket venture. I have already replaced all 4 speakers, they were a peice of #$%^ with some Jensens. I looked on-line for a source for factory gm radios, what a joke I am not paying that! I was at walmart yest getting my Goodyear Tracker-2's rotated and balanced(part of the lifetime package on purchase what a good deal that is) and looked at thier auto audio section, they actual have some nice systems and brand names and they even sell the install kits and antenna kits as well,
