Hey fellas, name's Travis... Thursday I picked up my first silverado. I have had a bunch of different cars and trucks over the years. But I am getting tired of my old mid sized dodge and decided to step up to a full sized. I got a 2000, LS, ext cab, 4wd, 5.3 off of a guy with no motor for $1000. Guy pulled the motor saying he overheated it. Which after working on my wife's blazer for years, I know that these are tough motors and I doubt he had to pull the thing. But the guy sold the motor off and needed the cash sold me the truck for cheap. I went out yesterday and found a 5.3 out of a wrecked suburban with 85K on it for 650. I am pretty mechanically inclined (I swapped 8 lug axles under my jeep, built a stroker for it, yadda yadda) and I run a part time gig as a fabricator.

I know I will be on here asking a bunch of rookie questions, I hope yall bare with me. Thanks for any information ya'll would be able to provide (i know I'm gonna need it).

The body is in good shape. Has the normal dings and slight scratches in the paint from being 12 years old. I'm gonna have to replace some stuff like the mounting bracket for the headlight, lower valence tailgate handle surround. Anyone know if '04 Z71 bumpers and fender flares would fit on my '00?

I replaced the waterpump, tstat, timing chain, valve cover gaskets, intake manifold gaskets, checked the knock sensors, plugs, wires today.

The transmission looks like it is in good shape. Fluid fluid looks good and red. I think I might still pull the pan, change the filter and pour some new fluid in.

Well, cleaned up the engine compartment and dropped the 5.3 in. I still have a ton of little things to do, but it is getting close. The motor I picked up is driveby wire, and mine is cable actuated so I am having to swap out throttle bodies. Got to get the accessories bolted up, the flex plate/TC bolted up and I might be ready to fire this thing off soon.
