Hello guys

Postby Eagle564 [OP] » Jan 17 2012, 12:15am

Hi everyone. I'm fan of chevy and most of their vehicles but unfortunately I don't own a truck yet. Currently driving a '95 Z28 Camaro and really like it but definitely need a truck. I have found a 2001 silverado LS that's already got a 6" lift and I think 33" tires. Great looking truck but has 166k miles and some play in the steering. Also has IFS suspension. Now the dealer offers a 50% parts and labor warranty for free. Now what would be your opinions on this year of truck, and whether it would last and be a good daily driver and off road truck. If this wasn't the right area for the post sorry. Any opinions would be helpful, thanks. -Mitch

Hi Eagle, and Welcome to the site..

I'm sorry I can't help you about the truck and lift question... But hopefully some one can. My reply will put you on the map!

Take care, :-)

Welcome to the site eagle, id say if you drove the truck and it runs and shifts good..and its what you like then go for it. If im understanding you right the dealership is throwing in a warranty for free so thats a plus as well. Me myself im not big on lifted vehicles but if thats what your looking for then shouldn't be bad. Theses motors go along time if they were properlly maintained!

just my opinion but i think this could end up leaving a bad taste in ur mouth considering its got a lift and oversize tires you have to think about things like front wheel bearings ($120-180 plus labor) what kind of wear and tear the tranny has experienced. the lift and larger tires add stress that factory parts werent designed to handle id hate for u to get burned and start driving hondas or fords. my advice would be to find a stock truck and drive it first (gas is gonna go quicker than that camaro then when u think ur ready to step off the edge lift it and throw on some bigger rubber by the way bigger tire = more money at replacement time. good luck

Thanks for advice guys! it does have the 5.3 liter engine and it seemed that the engine and tranny were strong. From what I could tell the suspension was done right and looks taken care of. Although it does have about a 6 inch thick aftermarket drive line for some reason along with the IFS. I'll look into it although the 50% warranty is nice even when it does break.

It sounds like the truck may have a worn pitman arm or idler arm.
