No downside to it in my opinion if sealed back well and if your time is taken. My roommate and I cleared mine after watching a vid on another site. Just need time, a dremel tool, silcone, and patience/confidence. Lol. Just have to silcone it back up real well so it won't leak or fog up. Mine have been cleared a year and a half or so.
