New member from OKC w/ battle-scarred Sierra

Postby D_A_W_S_O_N [OP] » Mar 04 2012, 8:00am

So I bought this little doozie at the unripened age of twenty. I was fresh back from a year long stint in Korea and was about to be stationed at Fort Hood, Texas. I needed a vehicle with decent enough gas mileage to make the trek from OKC to Hood and back at my leisure. I decided on a V-6 for this reason so don't be all high and mighty with your 4.8s, 5.3s, 6.0s, and 6.2s; This 4.3 has done me well over the years. A Private First Class in the Army doesn't make enough money to take 1000 mile round-trips twice a month and still have enough beer money to get all the MP and Medic chicks sauced at their every whim.
Over the time I have had this truck (September 2005 - Present) I have been either at military schools, training, or deployed for about 3 years of that. I got her at 93K miles and have managed to put about 90K on her myself. I've really only had one real issue with the truck: some sort of faulty distributor deal that happens from time to time. The truck will start up and then immediately shut off. I'll continue to try and get it to stay running and usually after about 15 minutes she'll stay going. Hey, it's temperamental. Also, in the spring of 2009 my vehicle was "shot up" by some suburban thugs with a small caliber firearm. I'm guessing it was something like a .22 but it took out my windshield, a wiper blade, back glass, and put a round in the headrest and body of the passenger seat. Some people's kids, ya know?
I'm about to be coming home from a little vacation over in Kuwait pretty soon and I'm looking to get a 2003-2007(Classic) GMC Sierra Crew-Cab SLT 4X4. I've looked at the newer 2007+ Silverado/Sierras and I just don't like them as much as the 03-07. I've had good luck finding lower mileage vehicles, but all these have been on the interwebs, so I'm really anxious to get home and start haggling my way into a new(ish) Sierra!
I know this was long, but dammit, I had some things to say. Take care and I hope all is well.

WELCOME to the site. Great first post, thanks for sharing some interesting info about you and your truck. The truck sounds almost like a pet...you've been through a lot together, and it's pretty loyal to ya! :D
It's a good looking truck, too.

Again, welcome to the site.

Thanks to all and I am glad to be a part of the site. Hopefully, I'll be stateside here in the next few weeks and I can get it going on finding a new truck. My brother is having his first baby (a boy, thank God) in June and I'm getting hitched in September; That with the addition of a new truck and plenty of lake time, this summer is certain to make up for missing out on all of last summer with my family and friends. Take care and be safe.
