Towing With Silverado 1500 w/373 and 6.2 l

Postby cehenders [OP] » Nov 20 2013, 8:07pm

Just ordered a 2014 Silverado 1500 4X4 with 6,2L engine with 373 gears. I have a 1500 Sierra 5.3L with 308 that I am trading in that I used for pulling a 6200 lb. trailer. Just wandering if anyone has a similar setup and what to expect pulling a trailer weighing 6000 lbs will pull vs. my old truck. Can't wait till I hook up the trailer and hit the mountains. Truck order Oct 21, 2013 and still on hold.

From the video someone posted yesterday about it compared to the ecoboost. I would expect it to shift alot and not be able to maintain the speed limit. Probably spend more time in the slow lane. Might be better with the tow haul button on. Great down hill breaking though. Still better then your 308 set up.

Yea the 6.2 with 3.73 gears will tow the fricken doors off your old truck. It'll be night and day difference.

Hello Charlie and welcome from Truro Nova Scotia >>> I expect somewhat like comparing a VW Beetle and a Ferrari or a Ride on lawn mower and a 90 HP John Deere >>>

^^^I agree Joe, his old truck seemed to tow it fine and the new one should really have no problem towing the same load.

Not sure which part your referring to but In the video the Chevy truck stayed floored up a long mountain pull and it constantly kept shifting. It would up shift and loose speed then down shift and catch up. They had to stay in the slow lane because the truck could not even keep up with the speed limit. The Ford Eco boost did not have this problem. They were able to let out of it a few times something the Chevy could not do. The Ford was able to get up the 8 mile climb ( I believe) in over a minute faster then the Chevy as well. The Chevy is probably a better truck for 1/4 mile times but does not tow as well as the Ford. Not saying I would want the ford but it was cut and dry better at pulling. Going down hill was a different story. Also the Chevy was the only truck that was rated to actually pull the heavy trailer and it couldn't do it as well as the ford. Yes I know there is more to towing them pulling there is stopping too. The Chevy was much better then that.
