Decladded LTZ 20" Wheels and Tires

Postby Arkss [OP] » Aug 05 2012, 4:48am

Up for sale is a set of LTZ 20" wheels. I bought these with the intentions of removing the chrome clad and then polishing the wheels. Well, long story short, I removed the clad and then started to polish one wheel and then lost interest. I have about 20 hours into them right now. The tires have about 50% tread left. I would be willing to meet in the middle, but will not travel further than 250 miles from 71701. Sorry, no shipping at this time.

Please let me know if you have any questions. These wheels are in perfect condition, no curb rash.

Can you describe in detail all the steps you have taken to get the rims this far. Also were the tires removed during the removal of the chrome plating finish? Is there anyway you could provide an exact measurement on the tread depth and what are the details for the tires? Last question, would you be willing to meet up in Stewart, MS at Nails Deli and Grocery right off 82? Sorry for all the questions but had to ask them.

Let me answer you questions.

The tires were not removed during this process. These are the original tires that came on these wheels.

To remove this chrome clad I followed this process:

First I started by driving wooden wedges into the foam that was between the plastic and the wheel. Once I had a wedge by each spoke, I then flipped the wheel over and drove one more wedge into the area between the plastic and the face of the wheel. After that, I simply pulled off the plastic cover. This was the easy part. From there, it was a long process of cleaning all the foam and sealant off the wheel. I used different pieces of wood to complete this activity. I then used a very fine wires brush to clean the wheels the rest of the way.

I used wet/dry sand paper to start, polishing the one wheel. All the wheels have the machining marks on them, which turned into a bigger project than I want at this time.

I took additional pictures today after I washed them and will post them.

Yes. I could meet you around that area.

Exactly, paint or powdercoat those wheels. The amount of time and work that it will take to get them polished and looking decent will be insane. Or, glue the chrome covers back on and call it a day.

Looks lots better without cladding , all you need is the center caps off a suburban to cover lug nuts to finish it off
