Hi,
Been trying to find a replacement spare tire hoist. Not sure if this is the right place to put this or not.
So so far, I haven't been able to come up with one for an 8 lug spare (2005 Silverado 1500HD), which has a wider center opening.
All I keep coming up with is the Dorman 924-510, which only has a "pad" (what holds the tire) that's 5 inches across. Old pad was over 6, which I no longer have (Shop cut it in half to get the spare off).
I'd go with the 5 inch, but that leaves just about an 1" bigger than the hole and I feel like the tire could easily come off. Certainly don't want a tire bouncing down the road! So I'm wondering if:
a. There's another option out there that anyone is aware of for a replacement (besides going to a dealer).
or
b. If you've used the dorman 924-510 and rigged up something to hold the tire securely other than welding something on.
I was considering using a round disk of with a slot in it from the edge to the center (to allow for the cable), sliding it on, then bolting it down to the pad.
Thoughts?
Jim.
