Like how much white smoke? It might be a breach of your coolant system which would lead to coolant getting in the engine oil system... IE a blown head gasket

You need a tune unless you just happen to have a 4L80e transmission... if you do have a 4L80e you can just take the bcm and swap it too... iirc.

Yes. That is usually the issue because i have narrowed the cause for the message to be the engine not warming up sufficiently.
If you do not let your engine warm up, i almost guarantee it will appear.
Thermostat being stuck open would not surprise.

... Seems to sit on throttle body and intake box alot better. The best part about it is the trucks computer didnt detect any more problems and the engine light went off after a couple of engine starts. So far life is good!!

So my 2006 Silverado 4x4 5.3L with 170k miles ate the cam and destroyed the motor. As cam failure in the 5.3L's is common I am thinking about replacing it with a 6.0L gas motor. Has anyone done this swap and if so what else is required to complete the swap. Thanks...

I don't think the noise I am hearing will cause any damage if you drive it as long as the oil pressure is good. I'd get another filter and try it. You don't have to change the oil, just the filter. If I am going to replace just the filter, how much oil is gonna come out when you unscrew the oil fil...
