... You can pull constant power from the brown wire in you trailer harness (hope you have one) to actually power the lights. Don't power them from the switch itself. I mounted my relay behind the taillight.

I found out you can upgrade here's the parts you would need, please check to make sure they are the right parts tho. I was told it can cost $300 for parts plus you got to get the dealer to program it.

That is possible, however I have not heard that. That would cause symptoms like i described (having a short inside the switch).
