Remote Start

Postby Swift Run [OP] » Apr 27 2012, 3:43pm

Hi

I picked up a Chevy Silverado Ls $X$ with a 5.3L and all pwr accessories.
I'm not sure if it has the remote starter feature, how do I figure out if this is in fact an option on this vehicle?

thanks
B

What year? Do you have the build sheet? If its a NBS, the key fob will have a little half circle stamped on a push button on the top center. Stand by your truck, press lock, then press and hold that top half circle button for around 5 seconds. Also, a search on this site will return valuable information for you. ( sorry its a choppy message, I should be paying attention to the meeting I'm in.)

Sorry glove box has rpo codes in it, these tell u what all your truck has. U can use a decoder to scan these codes online(search gm rpo decoder) and see what ur truck came with. Remote start ready means u must goto dealer and buy a apckage that contains two keyfobs and a code. That code is called into gm and gm will give dealer a unlocked flash for ur computer... Dealer reflases and ur done. U can also order the package online if needed

I ordered a GM Remote start kit off ebay for $115 and got it programmed and installed at the dealer today for another $70. It amazes me that they only charged me $70 for the install and programming of the two new key fobs. I called them a couple of weeks ago about programming a new key fob for my wifes Cobalt and they wanted $120 for just a single key fob. Oh well, I found another dealer that will do it for $25. I just have to find a good deal on a new FOB.
Another thing that surprised me is that the old fobs still work with the truck. They just don't have the remote start buttons but they still lock and unlock the doors. I was under the impression that they would no longer work after the remote start install. Glad to know I have a couple spares ready to go, just in case.
This will make the rest of this nasty winter just a little bit better.
