2 questions re: the all terrain package and lug nuts...

Postby JBartoletti [OP] » Jan 21 2012, 10:51pm

I just went to install my RC leveling kit and apparently I already have it installed....

Image

Ok, cool. Less work for me I guess. I tried looking under there prior to ordering the kit but it was cold and I figured there was no way my truck would have them on so I went ahead and ordered. Oh well.

Now, when I was removing one of my lugs, I noticed that one of them had a bit of rust-color to it. Well, when I went to torque it, it started to slightly deform under the pressure. Got it off and this is what it looks like...

Image

Looks like it's rotting or something??? What is this? Upon further investigation, another one seems to be doing it too. I'm assuming I should probably find a new set of lugs. Where can I find a set locally?? Dealer? I don't want to get raped in price.

It looks like someone has been using an impact gun on them with a shit ton of trq. If they are soft I would replace them asap.

And if those are soft, look the studs over real well too.

Interesting about the installed leveling kit...

That looks like a chrome cover on a lug nut that is coming off. Chevrolet used to use those all the time and they would all eventually come off.

They kind of look like it but I can't seem to get any of them off. I don't know if they're made to come off...I would assume so if indeed they ARE a cover. I tried O'Reilly's auto parts and no luck...well, they just have the lugs with the open end. Which, who knows, maybe that's all it really is underneath there. I stopped by the dealer but they closed at 5 and it's 6 now...and of course I don't think they're open on Sundays. :x

They may not come completly off. It looks as if Chevrolet has changed the design a bit. You can notice they are crimped over the lip at the seat of the nut. You could use a chisel to get them off I would think.
