3.5" RC lift update with mileage

3.5" RC lift update with mileage

Postby dpaul [OP] » May 09 2011, 3:44am

I have read up on quite a few of the different 3" - 4" suspension lift kits over the last 6 months... most of the reading I did was on this and other forums. I wanted feedback from folks who have tried and experienced different lift kits.

There was an overwhelming disapproval about the 3" Rough Country suspension lifts on a lot of the forums. The RC 3.5" had just came out when I started researching. I was impressed with the minimal amount of cost (~ $475.00) as well as the ability to return the truck back to stock.

All of the complaints bothered me, but I realized that those who complain, make a lot of noise. Those who compliment, make little noise. You have heard of a complaint department, but have you ever heard of a "Compliment Department"?

I had heard of several good results from the new 3.5" lift on a select few of the sites... I decided to take a chance and gamble on the new design... NO REGRETS!

I have taken the new lift off-road and twisted the frame going through four deep ditches... I also have drove from Atlanta, GA to St. Louis, MO and back. So far, since installation I have about 3000 miles on this lift and have no regrets. No noise, no alignment problems, no pops, no squeaks, etc.

The "Compliment Department" says great job RC... if problems start, I'll report back and join the "Complaint Department". So far, I don't think I be Whining! I LOVE IT!

Caldwell:
Thanks... I am not running the stock tires. I changed from 265/70-R17 to 285/70-R17's. This added an extra 1/2" of height since the tires were 1" taller. I have since added different rear spring blocks which added an extra 1' in the rear to return some of the rake. If interested, I can post a picture with the taller spring blocks.

Additional pics...

One photo with stock tires and leveling kit only. The photos with the BFG's and the factory Z71 decal are after the 3.5 inch lift. The photo with the white Z71 decal is with an extra 3/4" of height in the rear to return some rake... it's not much rake, but it didn't look like it had a loaded diaper in the rear. It is more noticeable in person than in these photos.

Leveling kit only:

Nice work. Love the way it sits. Unfortunately for me, a 3.5 lift would probably guarantee that I couldn't use the garage. :x
