i have the 1200lb version. i like them alot, they tend to leak down over the course of a few days so having on board air and a guage would be a good idea(the whole air kit comes as an upgrade/optional package). let us know what you get.

You can also upgrade them with electric air pumps; if you think that is worth the price.

Otherwise you have to add air to them manually?

I put them on my truck when we upgraded our camper. 30ft V-Lite at around 7200 lb loaded. Worth every penny. Run about 12psi in them when I pull the trailer. They do have cheezy air fittings is the only problem. Make sure you get a square cut on air lines on install is the key. I redid mine after a half arse first attempt and the leak is very little over the course of days. I just use a small pump that plugs into my power outlet inside and air up valve stems located in rear bumper. I dont use the often so auto pump wasnt worth it for me. Big thumbs up on these bags,, ;)

air bags

Postby gmctruckguy » Feb 02 2012, 8:16pm

I have the Firestone air bags, no issues with them and don't loose any air. Have about 10psi in them to give me a little rake after I installed the level kit.

Yeah. I hid my air valve inside the gas door. It's a tight fit but it works. I'll post a pic of it.

Question regarding these bags...

I just bought a used 2003 Silverado 1500HD that already has the Firestone bags and onboard pump/gauge installed. My question is, when driving unloaded, do you have to have any air in them or can they be safely run empty? I had a set of Monroe Max-Air shocks on my old pickup and the manual for those cautioned to never run them with less than 10-15 psi to keep from damaging them. Of course the previous owner of this truck didn't give me any information about this system, and I haven't been able to find a manual on firestone's website.

I had another question about leakdown, but that seems to be common. Mine leak down from 10 psi to nothing in about 2-3 days.

Re: air bags

Postby 08max » Mar 01 2012, 12:57am

i got air lift bags on mine. love them. i haul quite a bit, so i use mine regularly. i have had up to 90psi in mine. And while empty, i wouldnt recommend anything more than 3-4psi, otherwise your rear end will be rock hard. i tied both bags into one air line, then ran the line into the cab and mounted the schrader under the dash near the brake release. i have a 12v compressor under my seat, so i can essentially inflate and deflate my bags while never leaving the drivers seat.
