Ball Joints

Re: Ball Joints

Postby 7daughters [OP] » Jan 30 2012, 4:26am

Well, it wasn't as bad as I thought. I took several pictures and posted them in my gallery. They are in reverse order, so you will want to start on the last page.

The bad thing is the damaged knuckle from the bad lower ball joint. From the website car-part.com, the JY 5 blocks from my house has several. Hopefully they have one that is in good shape.

Nope, I got the joints in and ready to reassemble and found the damage to the knuckle. I will go down tomorrow morning and see about getting one. For now, the truck is hanging half way in my garage on the stands.

Well, after you get the new spindle you should be rolling in about 45 minutes.

Got a new knuckle and everything went together as planned. Took it for a test drive and it all feels good. Alignment is scheduled for tomorrow morning.

Alignment is complete and I can tell a big difference the way it goes down the road.

The guy I take my cars to is pretty limited in what services he does, but is very reasonable on his prices and very good at what he does. http://www.alignmentspecialtiesinc.com/ He runs it with his son and they are the only employees in the place.

When he finished mine I asked him if there was much adjustment needed and there was. The funny thing was, he did not have to touch the left side (the one I worked on), only the right. When I got home, I looked and you can see where he made adjustments due to the dirt on the bolts.

Chances are, since he specalizes in only a few area's on vehicles, he is probably very good at those areas. What's your next project of the truck?

My list in no certain order:

window tint
coolant flush and thermostat
new belt
diff fluid
trans filter and fluid change
the next oil change
spray in bed liner
tow mirrors

and I am sure will come after I get all the mechanicals up to par.

I had a line-x liner in several of my other trucks and really liked it.
