Leveling kit advice

Leveling kit advice

Postby ClownShoes [OP] » Jan 31 2012, 2:25pm

Ok, so I want to level my silverado reg cab 8 foot box. It has the z71 suspension option. How much of a level do I need? I am not looking for huge tires, just more ground clearance. Also, will this cause issues to the truck? My last truck was an 09 Tacoma and I installed a lift of only 1.75 inches. That caused a vibe and noise in the front end. It was the tipping point for getting rid of the truck. I just don't want to put a lift/level on this truck and cause issues again. I sold my 97 dodge ram to a neighbor and that sits up so proud. Looking at all these new trucks, every one stock has its nose to the ground. I guess looking for better mpg.

thats the reason behind that madness of the nose buried in the ground and also for towning that it wont sit real high with a trailer on it...but usually a 2" lift is what is needed you have plenty of options from aluminum blocks under the front struts to composite ones by Rough country...to the pucks that are ontop of your coils its all up to you i have a 3.5" lift on mine has the bottom stut spacer and the upper puck...and a block on the rear end...my prefrence would be the one ontop of the struts not under it if you just leveling

From the research i've done it shouldn't cause any issues as long as you get the front aligned after the install.

Thanks for the info guys. I would want something that doesn't make the ride any stiffer than it is, so i guess the blistein or and other spacer that increases preload is out. I will look at the block style options. Thanks.

no other way around the Bilstein should give you the best ride it is a adjustable strut which replaces the factory and raises the truck...Neither of the kits gave my truc a rougher ride the one on the top of the coil or the one on the bottom...combined yes they made it a little worse but still not that bad...big bumps you feel but other then that its stock feeling

Well, I mention the rough ride because my yota had the billys and it def. made it ride stiffer. Not sure what it would do to a full size truck considering its heavier. Also, is 2 inches enough or maybe 2,5? BTW, what are the settings on the billys anyway. My yota shocks were 0, .86, 1.75, 2.50

see i never had them on my truck i am looking into the bilsteins...they ride rough good to know...im having diffuculty with my lift right now cause i did it partials and didnt think about the other aspects of it of how my cv axle will wear out faster without a diff drop. but since the under strut spacer is thicker then the top the cv axles has about 1/2" of room to where the strut bolts onto...so if i drop the diff it will decrease the space it has so going with the bilsteins will increase the space by almost 2 inches...thats why i reccomend the one ontop the coil...and its all up to you i would measure from the ground to the top of your fender well from the ground thats the only way to know the height you need to level the truck

I just got my 05 Sierra 1500 and it's 2WD. Does that matter when you're talking about leveling kits?

not at all...you can level your 2 wd or even lift it.. since its 2 wheel drive yours will be the same concept to lift you should have coils and not torsion bars

Outstanding! I have coils. I admit, I had to go check. Thank you for the info. What would be a decent price range for installation?
