Leveling kit: Spacer on top or bottom?

Leveling kit: Spacer on top or bottom?

Postby Rottie [OP] » Jan 11 2012, 1:28pm

I've been doing a lot of reading about leveling kits and small lift kits and read through a lot of the posts here. It seems that a lot of people here like the Rough Country kits with the strut spacer on the bottom. I've noticed that some kits have the spacer on top or top/bottom like this one:

I know an alignment will be needed with both styles, I was just wondering about your opinions and suggestions as to the benefits/drawbacks of either design..

If your looking for a 2 inch level , R.C. Is probably as easy install as you will find. Lower spacer block install, versus strut removal for upper install on other brands . Ease of install was my reason I opted for RC.

Agree with above. Very easy to install and doesn't change ride.

i have both on my truck to give me a 3" lift with a rear block...i love it didnt affect the ride at all. maybe a bit stiffer in the front end but not too drastic. But i would prefer the one that goes under the strut its an easy install...but neither is hard to install the one on top once you get everything dropped off the front end you just loosen 3 bolts and it comes all the way out no problem....

But i do notice alot of people that buy the shocks that raise the truck up 2 inches by bilstein. they say those are the bees knees but that requires to break the coil the whole way.

lilmagoo, do you have the differential spacers? Are they necessary with a 2-3" lift?

I ordered the 2" Rough Country kit, from what I've read here; it's the easiest way to go. I'm picking them up this afternoon and they will be installed tomorrow morning with the alignment being done immediately after.

i don't have the spacers. alot im debating right now about buying them and installing them. but i dunno if i will have to get another alignment after i complete that? it doesnt look like their is that much of an angle on my CV joint on the Axle.... honestly if i were to do it all myself id get this one

http://www.ntwonline.com/National-Tire- ... -c-64.html

id buy the one for $249

but the one for 429 comes with the upper ball joints and control arm. so it might be a better kit i'm not sure.

here is before and after pics as well...now remember it already had the rear block, and a 3/4" thick spacer above the coil spring....the only thing i added was the under strut leveling kit from ebay for 60 bucks...
