Lower a 2010 2500 Crew Cab 2" or so for easier entry ?

Postby zuhl [OP] » Feb 22 2012, 3:23am

My dad just got a new to him 2010 2500 Crew Cab 2wd LT. It is very nice, but has a very tall suspension and since he and my mom are both about 60, it is somewhat difficult for them to get into, even with nerf bars. Is there any way to lower this bohemoth an inch or two? Not make it all lowrider stupid looking, but just to take out a little height and make entry easier? Thanks a bunch!

put 450 gallons of water in the back, that'll lower it 1 inch. Put #2700 in the bed, it'll lower it about 4 inches!

The front though will stay pretty high. I mean you could put a plow on it.

Actually get longer nerf bars, or get those electric steps that come out. I don't find the truck sits that high, but it's brutal without the nerf bars.

My 70+ parents thought it was fine, and dad's not nearly as agile as he once was, at 77 he's not much for climbing. But the nerfs on my 4x4 put it plenty low enough for him...

I've seen lowered 2500, mostly like leveled down the rear, but it seems this site frowns on anything lowered.

You could add a 2 inch drop shackle to the rear without too much expense or trouble, that would give you a little help

smaller tires or lowering kit. I bet they have suspension like blistien that has an adjustable shock for that. Also some companies make 2 step nerf bars that might get a little lower for them.

I don't believe that is true personally I just think that the majority of people that purchase trucks need them. Let us be honest lowered trucks aren't always practical when it comes to towing, turning, etc.

I need my trucks, and I've had 2 that were lowered. My 90 SS was my daily driver, and I did plenty of hauling and towing with it, and it had a Belltech 2/4 drop kit. My primary hauling rig was a 96 C3500 with the front coils cut for a 6" drop, and the rear was flipped and c-notched for a 6-7" drop, and it had air assist on the rear for ride height control. I never had a problem hauling a 52' fifth wheel race car trailer.

To answer the OP's question - you may have a difficult time finding a drop kit for the 2500 "off the shelf." However, any respectable suspension shop can replace the front coils or cut them down for you, and lower the rear by 2". It will not adversely affect your truck's functionality.

THanks for all the replies. I figured the rear would not be that hard to do with a new shackle or a shorter spacer over the axle. But I have no idea about the front. Hell, I peeked my head down there and I did not even see the coil spring! Does this thing have torsion bars instead? I know my old avalanche did and you could replace the "keys" in it to change the stance.

I'm a lost ball in high weeds when it comes to torsion bars. Maybe the Bilstien shocks adjustability would allow some drop for the front?
