Lubrication frequency

How often do you add grease?

Lubrication frequency

Postby EKinMN [OP] » Dec 31 2010, 2:20am

We've talked a lot on this site about oil and how often to change it. Something just occurred to me today, though. Since I am going 5-6,000 miles between oil changes, does that mean my truck is not getting enough grease? Should I still do this every 3,000 miles? Is it going to cause any premature wear if I do it every 5-6,000 miles?

I don't think your going to wear anything out by only greasing it every 5 to 6000 miles, unless you drive in alot of water, dirt, sand etc that will cause premature wear.

It all depends on the quality of the grease you are using.

I grease my truck once per year when I change my oil every fall, the mileage is around 10,0000 to 15,000 miles.

This is what I use because its the best they have for light duty trucks and cars.

I'm not saying my way it the rite way. Everybody has their own beliefs based on the information they have been introduced to. From that information we come up with our own maintenance routine with the products we believe to be the best. I service my truck based on the service program of a fleet Big Rig

I grease my 07.5 Silv 2500HD DMax at every second oil change If my truck worked hard that period (hauling and towing) I'll grease it, simply cause it deserved it.

Take care of your baby. Do what you think it needs to be dependable for you.
I little preventative maintenance will save 10 fold on the expensive maintenance

I agree, Glenn. And To be honest, I love doing most of the maintenance work on my truck, with the exception of getting under there with the grease gun, trying to find all of the zirks, and the mess it makes. I know I cannot skimp, especially if I do not do it as frequently as others. Thanks for the reminder to be diligent.

Z15, my concern about the once per year is not only about the quality of the product, but also about quantity. If you do it once per year, how can you be sure any grease is left in the reservoirs as you get to 6, 9 or 12 months? For what it's worth, I am averaging about 1500 miles per month.

I love my Sierra, but I appreciated the Colorado, where everything was sealed for life.

I grease once per year based on over 20 yrs of experience using synthetic grease. You of course are welcome to do what is comfortable to you. Btw-I have never had to replace an suspension components.

The better the grease the longer is will last...

Several of my owner/operator customers are using this grease, logging 10,000 miles a month coast to coast. I delivered a case to John yesterday, he wanted to grease his first wheel as he was leaving last night to deliver a new trailer out to the west coast, he is probably somewhere in the Dakota's today on his way to deliver the new UPS trailer. He told me this is the best grease he has ever used. Btw-He has over 100,000 miles on his 2000 Kenworth without an oil change using AMSOIL 5W-40 DEO Diesel and HD By-Pass filter. Oil analysis once a month and it keeps coming back OK for continued use, he has 1.3 million million miles on the truck.

AMSOIL Truck, Chassis and Equipment Grease is engineered to remain intact for maximum protection over extended service intervals. Owners/operators can be assured their equipment is protected when the job demands additional time on the road between maintenance checks.
