Power steering fliud

Postby bowhunter4L [OP] » Sep 30 2010, 12:16pm

Ok I have a question I had my oil changed the other day and the guy told me tat I need a power steering flush cause its dirty . I told him no. Partly because I've never had it done with any of my trucks or suv's and never had a problem when I got home I checked it and really its not that dirty its looks more like really light coffee(tea). I have 130,800 miles on it. Do I really need to change it? What do you guys think?

I am going to say no. Unless your changing out the pump or have it tore apart.
Crap, my hampster fell off the wheel and it broke its leg.

If it was foamy and tan and a bit like mayonaise, I would say water got in there and it should be flushed. Otherwise, it's a closed hydraulic system, and probably does not NEED to be flushed.
If you want to do what you want to do, you have to do what you have to do.

Usually it lasts a long time. No need to change it.

If you really feel the need, buy a GOOD QUALITY fluid, get the wife's Turkey baster (don't get caught) and suck out the old fluid and add new. Start the engine, let it circulate for a bit and do it again. Clean and done. No muss, no fuss.
