RC 3.5" lift installed with new wheels

Postby Airwolf79 [OP] » Apr 13 2012, 6:59am

It really is more satisfying when u install it yourself, although I would happily pay to not have to do it again. My back is sore! Got the full kit with upper control arms and 2" blocks stacked on the 1.25's. Really happy with the results. Truck is 2011 Silverado Ext. Cab 5.3 2wd. Wheels are 17x9 Black Rhino Rockwells -12 offset, gloss black with machined lip. Went with the new BFG Rugged Terrains 285/70/17's. I was a little worried about the negative offset with this small of a lift, but it just clears by about 1/2", and I love the stance. The tires just stick out past the fenders by about 1". Feast your eyes. Image ImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

Thanks guys. Haven't driven it much yet, but ride does feel a little stiffer. Well worth it though. Dude, the upper control arms were a b!tch cuz I didn't take the whole hub off, so I had to hold it up while my buddy swapped the arms. The front end took me and a buddy 4 hrs. Then I did the rear by myself in 3, so 7 hours total (2wd, so no diff drop). I'm sure some of u could do it a lot quicker, especially if u have the right tools. I have a lot of tools, bu what I really needed was some large wratchet wrenches and deep sockets up to 22mm, Expensive tools! 18mm in particular would've made those strut spacers a lot quicker. I had to use a crescent wrench on the spacers so that part took us a long time. Also u have to make sure those self clinching bolts bite into the metal on the spacer so they don't spin when u tighten the bolts.

Are the upper control arms and upper ball joints necessary when going with the RC 3.5" lift (Premium vs. Standard kits)? I'm looking at getting it and the price difference between the two will determine on when/if I do it.

Your truck looks good too, bro!

Not necessary, but highly recommended. Without them you will have to lightly modify (grind) the bump stops. This kit will most likely put premature wear on the ball joints of both lower and upper control arms. Might as well get the uppers now, and not have to grind on those stops. Although, you might take a look at some of the other threads on this lift and you'll find a couple guys who have the kit without them. Maybe they can give you an idea of how much "modification" is actually required to those bump stops. It might not be that bad. I just didn't wanna deal with it. Good luck, thanks for the compliment.

Thanks for the info! I think if I'm gonna do it, might as well do it right the first time. Decision is made, now I need the money. Keep up the good work!
