Squeak Noise after Bilstein 5100 leveling shock install.

Squeak Noise after Bilstein 5100 leveling shock install.

Postby II KRAM II [OP] » Jan 13 2012, 2:48am

A couple days after XMas I installed the Bilstein 5100 ride height adjustable shocks on my 2011 Silverado 4x4. With in the last couple days I've noticed a squeak when in go over even small bumps. I have checked for loose nuts & bolts. Also I did have alignment rite after I installed them. The noise seems to be coming from the drivers side. Anyone have any idea what it could be?

Squeak Noise after Bilstein 5100 leveling shock install.

Postby II KRAM II [OP] » Jan 13 2012, 3:16am

Thanks I'll check the sway bar link bolt again. I don't know how tight it should be. Maybe I'll put a little WD 40 on it. IDK.

II KRAM II, please post if you have figured this problem out. I have the 5100's on my truck and it has begun the same thing. Driver's side is also the side that is effected on my truck. I have had the shocks for about 2 years but had a CV boot replaced last year and wonder if this had something to do with the squeak not. Thanks.

I have the same problem. I installed the 5100s a few months back and the squeak started about a week later. I have since completely removed the struts again and greased everything, but the squeak is still there!!!!!! I believe the sway bar end links are supposed to be tightened to 18 ft/lbs. I have re-tightened them, and the squeak still continues. The link was even squeaking when I was tightening it down on the driver's side so I assume that is where the problem is coming from. I spray lubed the plastic/rubber sway bar link parts and it still squeaks!!! I am surprised no body else has had this issue yet.

When I installed the kit, I disconnected the sway bar, but not the ball joints and then used a small floor jack to put the strut in. Not sure if this installation technique has anything to do with the noise, but just figured I would throw it out there.

Uh-oh!! I just installed mine this weekend. Noticed the squeaking also, and just sprayed them with some lubricant. I'm really hoping it will go away. This is making me doubt it. haha Please let us know if this goes away and how you did it. It's been driving me insane!

Squeak Noise after Bilstein 5100 leveling shock install.

Postby II KRAM II [OP] » Jan 17 2012, 11:54pm

Found the problem on mine. Lifted the hood and bounced the truck. The bolt on the top of the shock had backed off. I tightened it again. I must not have forgot. Torqued to 15 pounds. Let me know if that fixes yall's Trucks as well.

So, you mean the bolt that actually holds the whole shock assembly down was loose? I will have to try it. I think we put ours down quite a bit, but hopefully that will solve the problem. Sounds like it could be dangerous too. Damn squeaking is pissing me off! haha
