Steering Issues - Ideas Wanted

Steering Issues - Ideas Wanted

Postby whilplashchevy [OP] » May 13 2011, 9:55am

I have had the biggest sting of bad luck that has led to more bad luck and left me scratching my head, if you have any ideas at all please throw them at me.
My idler arm on my pickup broke off of the shitty factory bracket this is located on the inside frame horn on the passenger side of the pickup. The idler arm is connected to the gear box for the steering post by an X member..keep in mind my pickup is far from factory it has a 15 inch lift kit. There was a bracket provided in the kit that was welded to the factory brace on the frame the metal gauge was far different. One was beefy and the factory metal was alot thinner..so there for it cracked around the weld. I had a shop "fix" the bracket and guess what? it completely broke off 3 months later sending my tie rod into my control arm and bending it like butter and sent the ideler arm into my steering stabilizer. Thus making my truck unable to turn right. I custom fabed a new tie rod and replaced the steering stabilizers with Rancho RS4504's the steering stabilezers connect directly to the X member, However when i completed this i started driving down the road and i can turn right but not very far...its better but its still way off. My question being what would keep the travel restricted so badly? My only thought would be the steering stabilizers or the setting on the heim joints that are connected at both ends of the tie rod. I will have pics posted later tom. Any help would be appreciated. The pickup has 38 inch nitto mud graps on it.

If everything is spec'd to stock I would agree with coolz71 and maybe pull off the steering stabilizer shocks and try some slow speed maneuvering and see what you got. If it's not limited after, you have just pulled one thing out of the equation.
