Steering Wheel whining/grinding noise

Postby Webconn [OP] » May 16 2011, 8:42pm

I have a 2010 Silverado ext cab. About 10,000 in I noticed a slight whining noise when I turn the steering wheel. It is a inside cab noise. It's in the dealers now getting brakes worked on again. (rear brakes). The last time I took it in they had to use some kind of "ears to locate the sound. They said it was the c8800 steering wheel airbag coil. they replaced it and as soon as i drove it off lot it did it. They told me it will take a few days to break in.....been a week and it is getting louder. Took truck in Friday last week and told them to find and repair noise! they said the would have Chevrolet engineer rep to look at it. Anyone have same problem? So tired of buying GM cars and trucks and spending big money to keep them running!

Don't loose your faith in GM.ALL of the manufacturers have problems with all of their vehicles. With GM's at least the trucks it's been plagued by electrical gremlins for a long time.Your steering wheel noise is a new one to me.Please let us know what they end up finding and how they fix it.

You sure it is coming from inside the cab?

I had a 99 Sierra that had whinning noise when turning and it ended up being the power steering pump. Had it replaced three times before they could get the noise to stop. It was all under warranty, so no big deal.

Heard from the District Chevrolet Rep today. He said nothing other then they are going to look at my case. Gave me a bunch of numbers to call to check on my case later. He said he would call Thursday between 2-4 for final answer.

There is a rubber bushing where your steering column comes through the firewall. A finger full of grease may do the trick. Good luck

But you know something I agree w/ you about GM not loosing faith, but I feel him totally. If people wanted ongoing problems with there pick-ups they could've got Dodges
