Torsion bars?

Torsion bars?

Postby 11silveradoz71 [OP] » Feb 14 2013, 9:29pm

I just called the dealer, and asked about leveling kits. They said they do not install them because it would void the warranty, but they can jack up my torsion bars to level the truck. Then align it. Anybody done this? What is the advantages /disadvantages? I wasn't even aware my 2011 silverado short 1500 had torsion bars! I guess I'm wondering why they would even sell leveling kits if this all you have to do? Any input would be appreciated!

I would get a new dealer... as far as I know you dont have torsion bars. I would suggest a kit like rough country and either install it yourself or have a reputable shop do it. The dealer can only void your warranty if they can prove it was caused by the leveling kit. You can also try to find a dealer that will install it if you are really worried.

I knew it!! Well I guess you can't judge the mechanics based on the lack of knowledge the service advisors have!!! I'll look further into this. I've loved everything about this dealership. I'd hate to leave over something like that.

Well I went in yesterday. I said "I think you're going to find that it doesn't have torsion bars" he said "I'm pretty sure it does.....we do this all the time." I guess the mechanic told him otherwise! He came out and said "some have torsion bars, some don't, yours doesn't"! Anyways he reiterated that a leveling kit cannot be installed without affecting the warranty. It's a bummer as I really wanted to have EVERYTHING on this truck done @ the dealer, with documentation for when I go to sell it someday.

Get rough country leveling spacers. And as far as the warranty goes, that's bs u can still have your warranty if u install this. Now if u go to dropping a cam in it or something like that then yeah, they can void the warranty

Ya that's what I want to do. Stock rims, 285/65/18's with an rc 2 kit. I'm sure if I stomped my feet loud enough if I ever did have a problem that they would end up honoring the warranty anyways. I just want my z71 to a
Look like it actually could go off road! It looks like a damn two wheel drive! Always been my only complaint about chevy trucks. Tundras and f-150's tower over my truck!

Go to another dealer for the levelling kit, I had my dealer install my kit, in fact they prefer they do it, so they know it's done right. Hell, the dealer I bought my truck at installs lift kits on trucks they sell and warranty everything. You're dealers service manager is full of shit and by the sounds of it has no automotive experience.
I suggest Pm'ing GM Customer Service on here and asking them, if they say the dealer can do it, maybe they can get ahold of your dealer and set them straight.
