who makes the best shocks for my truck

Need something more durable

who makes the best shocks for my truck

Postby elisa0mylord [OP] » Mar 11 2011, 6:59pm

I have a 2002 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4. I have to drive back roads, (dirt roads) often and need something more durable than the shocks recommended at the local parts store for my particular truck. I am not a mechanic and would appreciate some advice.

Rancho 9000s. They're adjustable. They're awesome. Now go buy them :)

I have owned Rancho's, Bilsteins, and KYB's on my trucks. I would do either Rancho or Bilsteins. The KYB are good...very durable, but hard riding.
My All Terrain package comes with Rancho's, and they ride really well.

+1 on these.

I have a 3rd generation desighn of these I put onto my dualsport motorcycle. The IAS stands for Inertial Activated System(valving for the hydrualics). They are worth looking into a least.

The ones on my motorcycle ride softer than stock @ high speeds on rough roads... BUT are stiffer during hard braking/cornering/and coming down off of jumps. Essentially the valving remains closed and tight @ all times keeping it stiffer for better performance.... but if the tire hits a bump/boulder(inertia)... the valving opens up and allows fluid to flow better... providing a smoother/better controlled ride. Same thing(but different valve) opens to allow the tires to fall into ruts/holes quicker... adding traction. The ones on my bike are made by Ricor and do this stuff... so the ones they helped develop with Idelbrock(or claim) should be similar for the most part... just an earlier version. My tires on my bike are much lighter and can move/chang directions faster. So the old gen should be plenty. I believe it has been used in a lot of offroad races.
