'08 Trailering Package

'08 Trailering Package

Postby ramu3527 [OP] » Apr 27 2010, 12:13am

If the '08 Sierra has a factory hitch with a 2" receiver does it have the Trailering Package?

Thanks

Look for the 7 pin connector right next to the hitch on the rear bumper and the extra transmission oil cooler in front of the radiator. I used to know the option code for it and I can look up what it is on my truck and you can look for the option code on your glove box build sheet.

It does have the 7 pin connector. I didn't look for the trans cooler. What is a glove box build sheet? It's a used truck from a Dodge dealer so There are no window stickers...

In the glovebox, you should have a sticker with codes on it. Codes like K34 for cruise control plus others. I have a decoder book here someplace.

Yeah i do think i saw some sticker in the glove box. The truck is at a dealer on the other side of town so it might be tricky for me to get a look unless I can get the salesman to take a shot of it and e-mail it to me. Or he can just check the code for me.

Thanks

I thought all newer models with the trailering package had the button in the end of the Gear shift lever with the little white picture of a trailer....right?

If an 2008 has the receiver hitch and an factory type trailer electrical connection below rear bumper then chances are it has the Z82 HD Trailering Package which includes the receiver hitch, 7-wire harness with independent fused trailering circuits mated to a 7-way sealer connector, wiring harness for aftermarket trailer brake controlled (located in instrument panel wire harness), single wire for high mount stop light.

I say chances are because someone could add the receiver hitch and plug after the fact.

So look at the option label for these codes to confirm
Z82 HD Trailering Pkg
KNP Cooling, Auxiliary transmission oil cooler

I bet if you looked around above the brake pedal and under the knee plate you will find a bunch of wire harnesses, if you find a set of 5 wires that is not connected to anything that is your trailering harness. 1 group of wires will be taped to a bundle which has an open end of wires ( i believe the trailer wire bundle has 5 wires). check it out, search around under there, dont pull on anything too hard though :)

Cheers,
Dave

My 2010 doesn't have the "towing package", there is no hitch, but I have the little button of which you speak. I also have the wiring harness in the bumper, but there is no door on the cover plate, it looks like a blank. Is there a trailering package and a towing package? Or is it the same thing?
