7 pin plug wiring. why not from the factory??

7 pin plug wiring. why not from the factory??

Postby ratpower396 [OP] » Nov 27 2011, 4:17am

Why does gm not hook up the 12volt power for the 7 pin connector from the factory?? Is it just another way that they would try to get some money out of people that dont want to mess with the wiring on their truck?? It seems like a really dumb thing that a truck is delivered with a 7 pin connector but is not able to be used without modifications.. Just wanted to see what others had to say..

Im not missing any pins Its the fact that the factory doesnt hook up the 12 volt constant power to the installed bumper plug to power accessories or charge the batteries in a trailer..

Wow - learned something new about my truck today, mine is unhooked as well, interesting.

After some speedy research - GM is not the only make doing this:

It seems the manufacturers want you to use the keyed source first so you don't run down the battery of the tow vehicle but give you the option of the 12v constant if you are so inclined.

Just thinking out loud here... Isn't it for the brake controller?
