I used the harness supplied by gm and spliced into a brake controller i bought on craigslist. It plugs in on my truck and probably most just above the parking brake. You'll find a big black box, unscrew the one screw in the middle. Your owners manual will indicate where it plugs into.. i think my 04 silverado was the 2nd big plug from the left on the top row. I also had to replace/upgrade one of the fuses in the fuse box under the hood. If you google how to install a brake controller.. thats how i figured it all out. good luck.. post if you have more questions.

Sounds easy chiefshocker. I need one in my truck I just bought to pull a 34 ft camper and the camper dealer wants about $40 to put one in, but if it's that easy then I'll do it myself.

Ok, I installed a Hayes brake controller and bought the $14 Hayes wiring harness. It plugs into the back of the controller and then into the black fuse box next to the brake pedal. I took the cover off and along the top of the box are 4 plugs. The harness plugs into the second plug from the left. Easy stuff that the RV dealer charges $30 to do.

Directly wiring it to the break lights as the sensor is a big no no on the new ones it can easily burn up the harness it is best to either buy a new one or factory plus you have the added benefit of plug and play
