Hitch receiver

Postby 1josh13 [OP] » Jul 10 2011, 11:53pm

Hi guys,

I bought my truck back in Dec 2010, it has the towing package on it, however it has no receiver. What class / brand / type of receiver should i put on it? Has anyone installed one?

I would also like to know what is my max towing weight, Im new to towing, I did look in the manual but Im not exactly sure what truck is mine as there are a lot.

Some details:

Silverado 1500 LT Crew Cab
4.8 v8
New body

anything else you need just let me know.

Thanks guys!

Do you know which rear end gears you have? Looks like 4600 lbs with 3.23 and 6600 with 3.73.

Sorry, can't help you there. I think you can call a Chevy dealer with your VIN and ask. I checked my truck and didn't see it listed on the driver door or inside the glovebox.

It's not at all uncommon for a truck to come without a receiver. There are so many styles of receivers that you can get, and which one you need depends on the type of trailer you intend to pull vs. the height of the truck.

One of the easiest ways to check what ratios and other build codes you have is compine, enter your vin and it will list all your RPO codes.

GCWR = Gross Combined Weight Rating. In other words, the combined weight of the truck and the load you are towing.
