Quick question.

Quick question.

Postby JJSeitz82 [OP] » Apr 17 2017, 10:10pm

Hello everyone,
I have a 2010 silverado ltz with
5.3L V8 K5L HD Cooling Pkg — Conventional Trailer 3.42 9,500 lbs (4 309 kg) 15,000 lbs (6 804 kg)
I was just curious to know if it would be safe to haul a 10,000lbs camper Or should i be looking for a different camper to rent?

No way you have a 10,000lb towing capacity with a 2010 5.3

Absolutely not safe to tow that. Just the camper alone is too much. Let alone when you get the truck and camper loaded up.

Either find a way lighter camper or get a 2500 (with 4.10 gears).

You need to be looking for a camper with a weight around 7k to be safe. 8k absolute max. And make sure the tongue weight is also keeping everything in spec. A weight distribution hitch is also a must for campers like this.

Yeah. I have a 2500HD 6.0 with 4.10 and 10,000lbs is right at my limit. and again....trailer isnt even loaded.

(be it that my 2500HD is a 2004. the newer ones have more room for error)

I agree with all of the above. You should be looking at campers no more than around 5-6000 lbs dry weight. Expecially if you will be towing it very far or up and down hills/mountains.

I have a 2012 5.3 with same towing cap and I tow a 5800 lb dry weight and it's all I want. Wouldn't want to try anything more. This is also with an equalizer 4 pt WDH as well.

I tow 13,000-14,000 lbs with my truck. Every scenario is different.
There is always enough time to do it over again, but never enough time to do it right the first time.

You need a bigger truck or smaller trailer. Period! Your truck's payload is right around 1,400 pounds. Your tongue weight alone will be pushing 1,000 pounds. You don't say how many passengers you will be carrying. You probably should be looking in to the 25 to 26 foot range. OR-if the rental place has them-there are hard sided ultra light trailers that are 30 feet that come in no more than 5,000 pounds DRY.

Smaller trailer plus airbags to keep the rear up

Doesn't need air bags with a PROPERLY ADJUSTED weight-distributing hitch.
