Test Tow With New Truck

Test Tow With New Truck

Postby sjnuss [OP] » Oct 18 2012, 1:48pm

We hooked up the TT last weekend for a test tow to get everything set and checked out. Towed great! Previously I was towing with an 05 Tacoma which did do the job but the 1500 has a much safer feel to the tow. I do have an integrated brake controller which is very nice. My trailer is a 19' Escape (compete fiberglass shell, made in Canada). Weight as in this photo is about 3,000 lbs, max trailer weight is 4,000 lbs. I will be adding and ARE camper top and Ranch Hand grill guard soon.

Steve

Nice set-up Steve. That new truck will pull your T.T. with no problems.
What do you have your brake controller set at ? I found 6 on mine was about perfect towing about 8000lb T.T. on mine. You probably are alot less.
Time to get it out and go camping,,, :D

Starsnbars-I do have mine set to 6 and it seems to be OK but maybe a little "grabby". When we go out next I will play with it some more. And yes we do have several trips coming up, every other weekend beginning the 1st of next month through the 1st of Dec. Looking forward to getting out.

Tcarr-will be ordering one tomorrow as I plan to get the "hammer tone" finish which has to be custom ordered.

Make sure to post pics when you get it I wanna see the hammertone finish. I know mine was supposed to take 6 weeks to get here but the order got lost somewhere so I waited 12 weeks but it was definitely worth it.

What I'm starting to learn is that my trailer brakes like the setting lower at first, and as they warm up, then they feel great. Otherwise, if I start out too strong, and then they warm up, they'll lock the wheels  .

Nice set up! I got my trailer brake on 4 pulling a 8k trailer and it feels just right. But every set up will be a little different.
