Towing capacity with 6.0L

What length and weight are people towing?

Towing capacity with 6.0L

Postby katjar503 [OP] » Sep 23 2010, 2:04am

Well after this summer the wife says time to buy a bigger travel trailer. We have a twenty footer now i don't even feel it with my 99 2500 4x4 6.0l . I'm thinking 25 to 27 feet, 6 to 8 thousand lbs would be just find. I do live in Oregon so there a mountains to climb. What is everyone else towing and hows your truck handle it?
Thanks for all your feed back

12 foot pop up with a LOT of stuff in the bed and 5 people inside. Don't forget to count THEIR weight!

Not towing anything that heavy! I have a 2005 Sea Ray 185. Weighs about 4,000 when full of gear for the cabin. I pulled it with the Colorado, so I am sure I will not have any issues pulling it with the Sierra!

When summer comes around again I'll be towing a 2005 crownline 192 with a single axle trailer. I was pulling it with my nissan armada 5.4l V-8. Hope the truck does better. I think with boat, trailer and stuff in boat i'm looking at about 5000 pounds then another 400 to 475 pounds of people and stuff in the truck.

Pulling a 35 1/2' Colorado trailer with the Denali, lots of power to spare, handles like a dream, just squats the truck a little more than I like so air bags will be going on in the spring.

My dad used to tow out 27' 8000lb camper with his 01 silverado 1/2 ton. It struggled a bit, but did the job. He now pulls it with an 05 Silverado 3/4 ton with the 6.0, and it pulls great! You sould be fine.

4 place aluminum snowmachine trailer with 4 machines and truck full of gear. Not sure the weight but I am sure the new truck will have no problems at all.

Gonna be pulling a large Pop-up (I wanna say its 4500 pounds or so), so that shouldn't tax the HD at all. We've been pulling it with my wife's Acadia and no probs. Hoping to get a chance to pull my father-in-laws 24' North River jet boat (no idea on the wieght, but its a monster), just to see how the truck does. He does fine with his Tahoe, but says he wishes for a bit more power.
