26 MPG? Where? Not even in a Silverado Hybrid will you see 26 MPG. The 6.0 is a great engine, lots of power, runs forever, but you'll pay for lots and lots of gas.

Trailer Towing Basics

Postby WrensLawnCare » Aug 26 2012, 4:59pm

Just to add to this great thread...be smart about what you are towing. People think ah my truck can pull this. When in reality it's way over weight. Here is an example I saw at the gas station the day. Reg can 1500hd lifted pulling something a 1500hd or 2500hd should have pulled.

Re: Trailer Towing Basics

Postby stormy2000 » Sep 14 2012, 2:45am

Great post! wife and I just got our TT, 34'5 ft 8K dry weight, and our first! pulled it with a 10 silverado 2500HD cc std bd. reading this post after we took it from dealer to storage, almost banging a metal post in storage area. that would not have been good.

Two things, as we were about to leave the dealer, i had tow mode on and gain to 4.0 there was this loud noise like something was stuck!
stopped, no noise, started again and the noise started up. lowered the gain and experimented and finally left dealer with gain at
2.0 and left it there for duration to storage approx 29 miles. I'm hoping this was solution and that I didn't miss anything.

while driving down the road, apprx 40 - 50 miles (spd limit 55), the truck seemed to lurch forward a bit and then backwards, if you know
what i'm trying to describe? not all the time but sometimes. any ideas?

good info on your post, will re-read it and yes i need practice, its in storage while we get moved out of house and get ready
to full time. thanks for all great advice : )

The lurching may be normal. There is a fair amount of slack in the total system. The hitch moves, there is some flex through the tow vehicle drivetrain, and through the vehicle being towed. I feel some in mine, especially when stopping or beginning to accelerate. I tow way less weight than you. I think your are fine.

I'd like to add a tip:

"If your unsure about pulling a trailer into a location its much easier to get out, walk, and check it out then pull in and realize your stuck."

I go to clients barns to shoe horses and I pull a trailer with my tools and supplies. whenever I go some place new I always park my rig on the street and walk up and make sure that I can flip around. I do the same thing or call ahead with existing customer that have tight spaces. Can't say how many times some one drops a horse trailer or tractor smack dab where I would manuever .
