What do you keep in the receiver when you aren't towing?

What do you keep in the receiver when you aren't towing?

Postby Z71Silvy [OP] » Nov 22 2011, 1:56am

Historically I have kept a drop hitch in a receiver of any truck I have owned even if I was not planning on towing for a while just to prevent anyone from hitting my rear bumper and to fill the space - but the Silverado seems a little too nice for that treatment, but I hate a lot of the tacky receiver plugs out there - so what is everyone on here using?

Let's see some pics!

if your truck is too nice to have a hitch hanging out the back then i think you should check out the prius owners forum.
lookin at a truck without a hitch is like looking at a women missing her two front teeth

Just the hitch pin. If I leave the hitch in it the rear back up sensor detects it and does not work.

Fair comment - I should be more clear - I have a hitch that I use for EVERYTHING - it is at least 20 years old, rusty, beat up from towing hay wagons, tractors, and whatever else my truck is hooked up to. The reason I am starting this thread is because that hitch looks a little out of place but I refuse to get rid of it - however I also refuse to put some piece of plastic on the back...

If I were looking for a "wussy" option I wouldn't be having to look so hard ;)

What do you keep in the receiver when you aren't towing?

Postby fox4wd1981 » Nov 22 2011, 2:54am

I rarely pull my trailer being so busy with work, but I didn't want the empty receiver standing out. I told my wife some sort of hitch cover cover would make a great b-day gift and this is what I got.

The eyes light up and blink with tails, brakes, and turn signals.

I have to admit that I scared a small child with it once. The eyes lit up when I pushed the lock button on the remote and she screamed "daddy, it growled at me" when I remote started it. It took all I had not to fall over laughing.

Thanks LBZ - you're right on track with what I'm talking about - something that is serious and does function, but won't remind me of something on my old 1979 C20
