07 chevy 1500 5.3. Changed rear diff gear abs light ???

Postby Revsracing [OP] » Aug 25 2011, 1:38pm

I have an 06 1500 2wd with 5.3l. It had 3.23 in it I changed them to 3.73 now I have an abs light that won't go away. Bought hypertech programer to reset gear ratio but that has not helped either. Any suggestions??

hmm i would check your wheel speed sensors. make sure the sensor didnt get bumped or something by the tire. they may just need a good cleaning. i dont think changing your gear ratio has anything to do with the abs system.

This is from Dana Catalog

Do not change axle gear ratios on vehicles with anti-lock braking systems except in accordance
with the vehicle manufacturer's instructions.
Vehicles with anti-lock braking systems may utilize sensors and tone rings within the axle
housings to ensure the functioning of the anti-lock brakes. Improperly changing the axle
ratios may defeat the anti-lock braking system. If changing axle ratios will require changing
the location of the tone ring on the ring gear flange relative to the location of the sensor in
the axle housing, contact the OEM manufacturer for specific directions and guidelines.

• Do not reuse or substitute ring gear bolts.
If you reuse a ring gear bolt or substitute an inferior quality bolt, the bolt may loosen or back
out of its threaded hole, causing severe damage to the axle gears and other components and
possibly resulting in a sudden "locking up" of the axle and loss of control of the vehicle.
Always use new bolts specifically recommended for the application and install bolts using
proper tools and torquing to the proper specifications.

ah so they moved the speed sensor to read a tone ring on the gear flange. that would explain it. great info mike

Ok, this weekend tore everything apart looked at all sensors. Adjusted rear brakes up. Put program bake to stock. And then reloaded. It does not show any codes. I drive it and about mile down road abs light comes back on check the code and it say there it not one but abs light says on. The abs sensor is in tail shaft of trans. I find nothing in book and visual on rear end that would have been damaged. Check wiring and grounds.
I think I covered it. Still need help. Any suggestion? Going to call hypertech tonight.

Could ABS sensor differ per axle ratio?

After several hours and quarter inch at a time change on programer no luck. Still says I have p0045 code. I do not have a turbo on truck. Brakes have 50 % life left. But I will try that next.
Anyone help please
