2011 4x4 floor shift problem

I just bought my second 2011 Silverado 4.8L, with 4wd floor shifter. Went over everything pretty good but never checked the 4 wheel drive... I just noticed the shifter moves easily with little to no resistance and truck does not go into 4H, 4L, or neutral. I crawled up under the truck and found the shift linkage is disconnected from the transfer case. Whether or not it's a common problem I was also hoping I could get the part number for the male and female part of that connection. Can't find it on my usual sites with diagrams (like gmpartsdirect.com). I don't post much on here but this site tends to be useful when I need info. Thanks in advance...

Ok, got the part and installed it... GM has made an upgraded part for this with different style ends. They no longer looks like a lift strut for back hatch... The only reason I need to change mine at this point is because who ever had it off forgot to place the metal clip back into the rod end and it just falls off the ball part of the joint.

The replacement rod is GM Part number is 22847405

To install, I used a flat head to remove the metal band that holds on the old rod at the shifter. It will fall off at this point... Then I compared the old to the new, adjusted the length as needed. The new one just snaps on. After that I checked everything over and 4x4 is working properly. This one isn't too hard to figure out. Everything is reachable once your under the truck. Just be safe and chock the wheels, if you pull the transfer case into neutral the truck will be able to roll.

I tried part #22847405 for my 2013 2500HD- correct ball ends and shape, but way too short.
It was a good opportunity to get it apart though and track down the whine noise.
When you have the linkage off, the shifter end (up through the cab) moves very smoothly and has extra travel above and below. There's no grooves or anything for each transfer case range, just one continuous lever movement.

I reinstalled my old one as-is and just reconnected it. You MUST pop the retainer clips off the ends with a vert small flathead screwdriver- just like lift gate struts.

I did not have the whine nose when I first bought it and for most of the first winter. I have changed the transfer case fluid twice since and absolutely no sign of metal flakes or anything in the fluid.

My conclusion is that the Magna MP1225 and MP1226 transfer cases, when shipped with a manual shifter, are just noisy. The whine is just getting transferred right through the shifter linkage into the cab. You probably would not have this problem on any electrically-actuated models.

The newer style rod ends are solid plastic/resin and almost definitely dampen the noise.
If I find the correct length linkage, I'll post back to this thread.
EDIT: GM #22847406 is probably the right one, part is en-route and I'll post back to this thread....

GM #22847406 was the correct part for a 2013 2500HD with manual shift. It has the same white nylon ends as previously-pictured part.
Installing was 2 minutes, popped right on after matching the length to the original part.
I put it in 4-hi up and down some hills 30-40mph, definitely improved sound, less whine noise transmitted inside the cab via the linkage.
There's a still a little whine, but much, much better. The nylon ends are dampening the sound.

An update- been running 4hi frequently this winter and the whine is gone.
It was just those metal ends.
For future searching, anyone experiencing a whine in 4x4 with a manual-shift transfer case, regardless of 1500 or 2500, check to see if there's an updated transfer case linkage part number available with those nylon ends.
