I have never see a OD kill switch on any GM vehicle. Its always been, if you don't want OD put it in another gear.

I will admit getting used to a 6 sp trans in the truck takes a lot of time. For me it seemed like it was between 5000-10,000 miles before I got used to it and now never notice anything (21,000 miles). My CTS4 also has a 6sp trans and if it were not for the tach you could hardly ever tell when it shifts. Maybe the trucks should have what the CTS has, a position on the shift lever called "Performance Mode". Move the lever sideways (right) and it holds the shifts to a higher rpm instead of allowing the computer to decide when it should shift, which is what is going in your truck.

Blame all the gov't regulations and fuel economy mandates for all this computer controlled stuff, they are trying to control your fuel mileage weather you agree or not.

Btw - Wishing for a manual trans will likely not be any better. For years they have had a little feature in manual trans vehicle called "skip shift" in which the computer senses you do not need 2nd and it blocks you from engaging 2nd and forces you use 3rd gear and some I heard block both 2nd and 3rd. Saves fuel by keeping the engine rpms down. It was very annoying in my 2002 Trans Am.
