4L80E Hard Shifting

4L80E Hard Shifting

Postby chevyripper [OP] » Jan 25 2012, 6:52am

Hi, I have a 1992 silverado with a 4L80E trans. the trans only has around 35k miles on it but lately it seems like it shifts as though it has a shift kit. I was wondering if this is a bad thing and I should look into it or what could be wrong

I had a 2002 Bonneville that did this and it had a bad Pressure Control Solenoid (PSC) that was causing it. When it went bad it did as you're describing by forcing full line pressure when shifting. I doubt this is good for it, if this is your issue.

It might be slipping. Have you dropped the pan to check for any particles?

No i haven't dropped the pan but i plan on doing a flush so I can check then. The trans only has 35k miles on it so I doubt it would be slipping already though. at least I hope not!

That's true. Those are supposed to be one of GM's best transmissions ever built, especially the newer ones. Let us know how it goes!
