4x4 problems

4x4 problems

Postby Wetzel89 [OP] » Sep 02 2013, 4:28am

Hey guys I've got one for you, and when I took this to Chevy they literally scratched their heads and just looked at me.
I drive an 08 silverado with a manual 4x4 shifter. When I tried shifting into 4h today I couldn't get the shifter to budge. I literally had to put all my weight behind it and when it finally went there was a loud grinning noise. Any ideas?

If it happens all the time, it could be linkages. If it's only every once in a while it could just be because you have too much tension on front end for transfer case to lock in.

Sounds like what my Colorado shifter did... ended up being broken linkage cable like the above poster said.

......I think its going to be a angle issue with the transfercase shfter, Was the body lift purcased from a store, or thown together hocky pucks and what not? I would contact the retailer and see what they say

How much body lift? the manual 4x4 trucks can only take 1.25" to 1.5" of lift off the body anything higher and the linkage is gonna be screwed. Even 1.5" is starting to push it...

I'd go back to where you had it done and have them take a look. They may have screwed something up while in the process, and if so it could be a free fix!
