My 2011 Silverado 1500 4x4 v8 has approximately 30K miles on it. I've noticed a problem on multiple occasions where I'm driving lets say 50 mph and then approach a stop sign on an exit ramp or some similar situation, I apply the brakes evenly to come to a stop and everything seems fine, no pulsing or anything like that, get close to the stop sign, not sure exactly the speed it happens but I'm close to stopping, and there is a bang that seems to come from the transmission. It's almost like it's waiting to downshift until then, it's something you can hear and feel, not real violent or anything but it's not something you would expect on a new truck. Has anybody else ran into this problem with their truck and what do you think I should do about it? I know the truck is still under warranty, I just wanted to get a little better idea about the problem before I take it in and the service department doesn't notice any problem with it.

EDIT: one other thing I wanted to mention, when the bang occurs I'm not letting up on the brakes at that point so it's not like the calipers are sticking, I purposely try to apply the brakes as evenly as possible to see if that was the problem and it still happens.

Its not the infamous "driveline clunk" is it?

Not sure, my old '90 silverado didn't do it but I haven't driven any other newer ones to compare. I was almost considering going to test drive a new one at the dealership to see if it did it. I bought the truck used so I'm not sure if it just always did this since new or not. I've only put 1K max on it since I bought it, and it's probably done this the whole time. It doesn't necessarily seem to do it all the time, I notice it mostly when exiting the highway and coming to a stop on exit ramps.

Does it ever bump when taking off from a stop?

No, never seems to and I've been trying to pay attention as much as I can to see if I can get any additional info on it. It basically seems to be tight except for the one scenario when coming to a stop and almost stopped.

A customer here told me his trans was banging sometimes when he stopped (a 2012 Sierra). I mentioned it could be the shift in weight and resultant drive-line clunk. He took it to the dealer and they updated the calibration in his TCM and he says it does not do it anymore. Might be that?

Maybe I should just make an appointment to take it in then. Hopefully they'll be able to recreate the problem, it's always hard to describe something like this that didn't happen constantly.

I would recommend bringing the service bulletin that coincides with the driveline clunk. The correct fix it to replace the slip yoke with a nickel played one.. If that is your issue.

I agree mike, not sure this is a GM issue more than a general design issue in the driveline of trucks...If you even call it an issue?
