Broken CV Axle

Broken CV Axle

Postby GMC1995 [OP] » Jun 11 2012, 10:25pm

I have a 1995 GMC Sierra 1500 4X4 with the 5.7L V8 regular cab long bed. I was driving down the road when I heard a pop sound, next thing I know the front end gets shaky and "hops". It seems like I have alot more play in the front end than I usually do..Would a broken CV Axle cause a bad vibration and a "hop" in the front end? :?:

It could, but there is a lot of stuff in the front suspension that could cause symptoms like that. Do a visual inspection, it should be readily obvious what is broken if it's that bad.

yeah a cv axle might be but usually those break at the joint inside of the boot and will just wont be able to engage that wheel in 4 wheel drive...usually...but like aste25 said check to see if any damages first before starting to just trial and error stuff...

Check the sway bar and suspension and the cv boot. If all that looks alright then it could be a bad wheel hub. Had one blow apart on me driving to the grocery store on my 09 sierra and it was popping like crazy and shaking. Took it to the dealer and they had to take the hub off in pieces.
