Carrier Bearing

need help with replacement issue

Carrier Bearing

Postby TexasZac [OP] » Oct 05 2010, 6:15am

I recently had my carrier bearing go out on my 2002 2500hd and replacement has been brutal. First of all, all of the part stores had the wrong part listed. When I finally found the correct bearing (and had it pressed on the drive shaft) it went about two miles before burning up. It looks to me like the front drive shaft is some how shifting backwards causing the carrier bearing ring to separate from the rubber gasket and bearing. All of the u-joints look great, and I can not see any reason for the drive shaft to do this. I am not a mechanic so any help that can be provided would be great. Thanks in advance.

I would recommend taking to a shop. One thing that may cause that is motor/transmission mounts are bad. Maybe center bolt in leaf spring pack broke. I haven't seen that happen to many times. The bearings usually last long time so something is wrong. good luck
